So while we’re on the topic of “Go Green”, we’ll talk about pollution. Anyone who lives in Jersey knows about pollution because NJ filled with factories, not to mention we live next to one of the most polluted cities in the world: New York City. As someone who lives in NJ, I often take the NJ Turnpike to the GSP to get to the shore and anyone who’s driven on the Turnpike knows pollution. As you pass Newark International Airport, you pass dozens upon dozens of factories for different companies. Most of these factories are oil refining companies such as Citgo and Gulf and these companies readily and willingly advertise across their storage containers and factories. Pollution is an ever-growing concern and threat to the environment. As opposed to ex-Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, global warming is a very present and hazardous phenomenon. Global warming is caused, in part, by noxious fumes and soot, both of which are byproducts of factories. The smoke and soot billowing out from smoke stacks is harmful and killing the environment. Due to global warming, the ozone is depleting and artic ice caps are melting causing dramatic changes in the environment. For instance, many can note that trees and flowers are blooming later in the spring than in previous years. Summers are becoming even hotter in all parts of the world than they once were, and winters are getting much colder than in previous years. The shifts in environmental conditions lead to a number of factors including ice shelf disruption, Arctic ice caps shrinking, extinction of different species, sea level, and the rate at which diseases are transmitted and mutate. To say the least, pollution sucks. Pollution is causing so many problems for the world which is why it needs to end. Go Green is all for making car/bus/truck fumes less toxic and harmful, preventing trees from being cut down unnecessarily in hopes of saving and preserving the earth.

  1. I completely agree, we need to stop pollution now. It is causing so many problems and destroying the planet. People need to make changes in order to stop what is happening to the Earth. The fumes caused by the factories on the Turnpike are disgusting and are causing so many problems in the air. The changes occurring in our environment are problems that are seen every year as the seasons change. The problems now are going to cause even bigger problems for the future of our planet. We really need to do something now or the future of our Earth is at stake. Who knows what’s going to happen if we do nothing about pollution now.

  2. I agree with both Bri and Jeff. It is just disgusting and people do not even realize how much we are destroying our ozone layer and ultimately our planet. There are so many different forms of pollutions from trucks on the highway to factories in cities. It gets so bad to the point when sometimes I am driving and I cannot eve inhale the air because it is just so contaminated I have to close my windows. I really would like to start to do something even if it is just making posters to make people aware of what is going on in our earth today. Although a lot of this is most certainly easier said than done we should not allow that to discourage us. Even though it may seem that a lot of the things we try or attempt to do really does not make a difference, little do we know how much it does.

  3. I agree with Jeff, Bri, and Davon - Pollution is a huge problem especially where we live. People do not realize how much they are harming the ozone layer, especially with everyday items such as the aerosole hair spray containers many women use. People need to make changes before the problem becomes too big to reverse. It starts by doing something small that makes a huge difference in the long run - if everyone starts to do little things to save the enviorment it will make a big impact. -Alyssa

  4. I really need to start posting earlier because the three bloggers that post before I did said pretty much everything. As Jeff said, pollution does suck, and anyone that his driven down the New Jersey Turnpike will tell you that. Since the Second Industrial Revolution, which originally took place in the early 19th century, we have slowly been polluting the earth more and more. As technology has increased, the pollution has increased as well. Now, common things such as aerosol cans are causing harm to the ozone layer. And these are common household items!! Think about how much damage you're doing before you use that hairspray to look good for your date on friday night, or using the lysol can to cover up foul odors in the bathroom. Until manufacturing companies develop new, cleaner car fumes, it is the little things that can help decrease the amount of pollution.
